Bike Brake Pads Rubbing Rim
First make sure your wheel is seated correctly.
Bike brake pads rubbing rim. 2 disc brake rub can be an issue. The pads will fit more efficiently on the rims and give you greater stopping power. I made a quick video to show how to repair this. Early disc equipped bikes borrowed the 74mm post mount standard from mountain bikes where the brake calliper is simply bolted directly onto the frame or fork and adapters are used to accommodate different rotor sizes.
Check to see whether the distance between the tire and the front forks is equal on both sides. The pads will act like a squeegee helping to remove any grime. Adjust the spokes before continuing. If you find your disc brakes are rubbing check the wheel is on correctly qrs are suitably tight loose the two bolts holding the brake to the fork there may be a cup and cone on the bolt by 2 turns press down on the brake and hold the brake on i use an elastic band tighten the 2 bolts holding the brake to the fork approx.
Some brake pads will be curved to follow the shape of the bike wheel. If the gap changes size as the wheel spins the rim is out of true. To test and know if the rubbing of the brake pads is efficient you will have to squeeze on the brake lever so that you can know the exact position where the pads grip onto. For a properly functioning brake system of a bike the pads should hit the centre of the rim at the same time with an equal amount of space above and below the pad.
Wheels can wear down faster than you would think due to mud and water making a lovely grinding paste on your wheel rim especially with lightweight aluminum rims. The gary fisher bike that i have been working has v brakes. The adjustment is very easy. Trued wheels talking about rims one of the other comments people make about disc brakes is that you can run them when your wheel is out of true.
Both sets of brakes were rubbing on one side. This allows you to see if the rim is warped. It s a little more tricky to take a close look at disc brake pads than it is with rim. Pads that are going to be used in particularly dirty conditions for example mountain bike pads will flick up at the back.
If they don t or if one pad is actually rubbing against the rim that may be because the wheel is misaligned in the bicycle frame. Now spin the wheel while watching the gap between it and the brake pad. If the rotor is rubbing loosen the two bolts that mount the disc brake to the frame and tighten them back while squeezing the brake lever.
